| It's no secret that Texas is home to more Southdown
flocks than any other state. In fact, history shows that the first sheep brought
into Texas centuries ago were Merino ewes and Southdown rams. In recent years,
Texas has led all states in registration transfers and consistently ranks in the
top 3 states in number of purebred Southdown sheep registered through the
American Southdown Breeders Association. The goal of the Texas Southdown Breeders Association is not only to promote the Southdown breed throughout the Southwest, but more specifically to encourage and educate our youth on the advantages of raising and showing Southdowns. The greatest efforts in reaching these goals are through our annual Texas Southdown Breeders Sale, the Texas Ewe Lamb Futurity, the Texas Yearling Ewe Lamb Futurity and its Annual Field Day. |
